If You’re Not From Vermont . . .

If You’re Not From Vermont . . . .

(a form change poem with thanks to David Bouchard, If You’re Not From the Prairie . . .)

If you’re not from Vermont,

You don’t know the mountains.

The mountains!

The mountains covered in trees

With the roaming deer and bear,

Covered in snow for perfect sledding.

If you’re not from Vermont,

You don’t know the blackflies,

You don’t know the mosquitoes!

You can’t know the perky bloodsuckers and their evil minds!

If you’re not from Vermont,

You don’t know me.

You just can’t know ME.

You see,

My nose is a mountain;

My eyes are boulders;

My lips are the bears’ caves;

My heart is a ladybug.

I’ve flown over the peaks with eagles.

I’ve eaten with bears.

My home is Vermont,

And I love the way it is.

Panning for Gold at MVCS!

If I were around in 1949, I would be a miner!  I would go west to get GOLD!!!!!!!  I WOULD GET GOLD FEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would go to the deepest mine and the best rivers.  Would you get gold fever too?

James Marshall was the first person to find gold.  He found it in Sutter’s Mill.  That was in 1848.  Storekeepers got a lot of money by charging a lot for regular things the miners needed.  The people who went west were called Forty Niners.

The Royal Moon

I am king of the night with my royalty.

The sun is my worst nightmare.

I prepare my army to destroy his glare.

Tucking the world into bed,

I see my kingdom down below.

I’m a flashlight of glowing gold.

I am the royal moon!

Young Eagles

On Tuesday, May 17th, 2016, I went on my first Young Eagles flight!  It was awesome!  I sat in the front of the airplane.  Trot-along, Cracker, and I went in the same plane.  I flew the airplane.  It went almost at a ninety degree angle.  It wish it went forever, but we had to land.  Later, we went in the control tower.  Then we took a photo and left.

Jesus is stronger than sin!

greyson-joshua2

G: Sin is strong, but God is stronger. He conquered over sin on the cross, so if we believe in Him, we are forgiven. Nothing can separate us from His love. He is so strong that with the Holy Spirit’s help, we can keep away from sin. We will show you a magnet experiment to help you think about how strong God is and how He is holding onto you.

J: On your desk, you have a cup with a magnet taped to the bottom of it. You also have a paper clip taped to the desk. Touch your paper clip to the magnet and gently pull the thread until your clip is suspended in midair! Now take the piece of paper, which says SIN, and have your partner put it between the magnet and the paper clip. Can the magnet still hold it in midair?

(G does the experiment on the table while J is explaining.)

(Leave time for experiment!)

G:

*What does the magnet remind you of? (God and His power) *What is the paper clip showing? (Christians or you)

*What will this remind you of? (Jesus is stronger than sin! He can help you conquer!)

J: Lead reading the verse together.

Saber Tooth’s Personal Rock

My rock is gray and white.  It has seven sides.  It is also shiny.  I think that it is quartz, and igneous rock formed by heat.
